PHOTOS: US Capitol Christmas tree arrives

It doesn’t get as much fanfare as the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York or the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse near the White House, but the Christmas tree that stands at the U.S. Capitol is a delight to visitors on Capitol Hill.

This year’s tree is a 53-foot red fir and the first ever from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada. It’s nicknamed “Silver Belle,” a nod to Nevada being the “Silver State.” It made its way to the nation’s capital on a truck called “Spirit of the Silver State,” and made pit stops in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky and Maryland before arriving Friday to D.C.

The Capitol Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place in early December and will be hosted with the Architect of the Capitol, along with the Speaker of the House.
