PHOTOS: A roundup of DC-area Olympians bringing medals home from Paris

Arlington, Virginia, swimming phenom Torri Huske brought in the most medals of any U.S. athlete. The 21-year old landed on the gold medal podium three times, for the 100-meter butterfly, mixed 100-meter medley relay and women’s 100-meter medley relay. She also took silver in both the 100-meter freestyle and women’s 100-meter freestyle relay.

Bethesda, Maryland’s Katie Ledecky won her ninth gold and 14th medal at the Paris Games. It establishes her as the most decorated female swimmer in history. She got a call from President Joe Biden before bearing the nation’s flag at the closing ceremony.

A 19-year-old swimmer just down the road in Potomac, Maryland, also took home some hardware. Erin Gemmell helped the women’s 200 freestyle relay take home silver.

The world’s “fastest man alive” calls Alexandria, Virginia, home. Noah Lyles won the 100-meter sprint in a true photo finish and a few days later took the bronze in the 200-meter sprint.

Quincy Wilson, 16, is the youngest male U.S. track and field Olympian in history. Wilson is from Potomac, Maryland. During the qualifiers, Wilson left the U.S. in a distant seventh place after his opening lap in the first round of the 4×400 relay. But his contributions in helping the team qualify for the finals earned him a gold medal.

NBA legend and Prince George’s County, Maryland’s Kevin Durant took home his fourth gold medal with the U.S. Men’s basketball team. He now holds the most golds of any male basketball player in Olympic history and is the event’s all-time leading scorer.

Aaron Brooks is a 23-year-old rising wrestling star from Hagerstown, Maryland. He medaled at his first Summer Games, taking the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle at the 86 kg weight class.

Helen Maroulis is a 32-year-old wrestler from Rockville, Maryland. She competed in her third-consecutive Olympics in Paris, taking bronze in the 57 kg weight class for freestyle wrestling. Maroulis is the first American woman to win three medals in Olympic wrestling.

Emily Fox, a 25-year-old defender for the U.S. women’s national soccer team is from Ashburn, Virginia. She helped earn the first gold medal for the women’s team since 2012 and the fifth Olympic gold ever.

A towering 6’9″ volleyball player from Ellicott City, Maryland, Aaron Russell helped secure the bronze medal for the U.S. men’s team against Italy. It’s his second bronze after picking one up in Rio in 2016.

D.C. native Taylor Knibb, 26, helped carry her team to silver in the triathlon mixed relay.

The U.S. men’s 8 took home the bronze in the rowing final. The medal-winning lineup included Christian Tabash (top row, second from right) from Alexandria, Virginia.

Masai Russel, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, 24, showed her skills and speed on the track. She took the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdle.
