Eager runners from around the world gathered at the Washington Monument grounds on Sunday for the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom races. Despite unexpected cold temperatures and strong winds, participants toughed through the 10-mile and 5K races.
For the 10-mile race, 21-year old Tsegay Kidanu of Ethiopia was the overall race winner, while 33-year old former Olympian Hillary Bor from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Sara Hall of Flagstaff, Arizona, took top honors for U.S. male and female runners.
For the 5K run, Swedish-born Baltimore resident Johan Fagerberg came in first with a 15:03 time and D.C. resident Casey Greenwalt led the women with a 18:12 time.
Last year, Susanna Sullivan of Reston, Virginia, set a personal record and came in first for women in the 10-mile race.
