9 recipes to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

WASHINGTON — Don’t know what to make for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or elevenses on April 12, National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day? Problem solved.

And how about switching things up? Try using mayonnaise instead of butter to grill the sandwich. Some, including Martha Stewart, use mayo for a crunchier, more toasty sandwich. Others say “Hot mayo, really?”

However you prefer to make your grilled cheese, here are some ways to add some pizzazz to the gooey, warm and comforting grilled cheese sandwich.
