Get free pancakes, or make your own, on National Pancake Day

WASHINGTON — Tuesday is a glorious day for breakfast foods all across America, and this March 7 calls for a celebration of both cereal and pancakes.

National Pancake Day, which falls on a different date each year, just so happens to be on the same day as National Cereal Day this year. So whether you prefer your crunchy Cheerios or buttery pancakes, today is the day to dish up the classics.

If you missed out on breakfast Tuesday, head to the International House of Pancakes any time between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to receive a free, short stack of buttermilk pancakes. The restaurant chain has been serving up free pancakes for twelve years running, raising money for nonprofit organizations.

This year, they’ve partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Shriners Hospitals for Children with a goal of raising $3.5 million.

The restaurant expects to serve a record-breaking five million pancakes on National Pancake Day, according to an IHOP statement.

“Every pancake served on IHOP National Pancake Day has a purpose, and every penny raised goes a long way in making a meaningful, and lasting, impact on so many kids and families in our communities,” Darren Rebelez, president of IHOP restaurants said in the release.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t give homage to the other breakfast foods out there beyond Tuesday. Denny’s offers all-you-can-eat pancakes for just $4, Friendly’s offers a 50 percent discount deal on breakfast through Friday and Starbuck’s has a deal for coffee and a breakfast sandwich for $5.

For pancake recipes you can whip up at home, here are some suggestions.
