Man accused of assaulting Fairfax Co. police officer during pot arrest

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A man has been accused of assaulting a police officer in Virginia.

Surveillance video Fairfax County police released shows two officers struggling to arrest 23-year-old Dadrian Jegede in the Alexandria area Friday afternoon.

Police tell news outlets in a statement an officer tried to stop the Washington resident when he smelled marijuana. Surveillance video shows passersby using cellphones to record them wrestling on the ground before another officer rushes to help. No one was injured.

Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. says the video shows how officers put themselves in dangerous situations to protect the community. The arrest is under an internal investigation as is protocol when physical force is used.

Jegede was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.
