Police search for 3 men suspected of setting man on fire in Annandale

WASHINGTON — Two people are in custody for setting a man on fire in Annandale, Virginia, and Fairfax County police are still looking for three others involved in the attack.

Police said they received a 911 call about a man being assaulted by a group of five men in their late teens and early 20s in the 4500 block of Commons Drive around 3 p.m. Sunday.

While the caller was on the phone with dispatchers, they told police they witnessed the man being burned by his attackers.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a group of men who matched the description given by the 911 caller running from the area. After chasing them on foot, police were able to arrest two suspects.

“Right now our detectives are interviewing those two and we are looking for the others,” said Lt. Eli Corey with the Fairfax County Police Department.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is being treated for burns to his upper body. He is expected to survive.

“We are still trying to determine what he was burned with,” Corey said. “We can’t even tell what was used to light the fire. So that’s part of the investigation right now. We just don’t know at this point.”
