Man swinging chain threatens people, destroys property in Fairfax County

WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County man started swinging a chain in a restaurant, then tried to break into a house and ended up hiding under a car.

Quan Anh Ly, 33, of Herndon was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, destruction of property and other charges, with more forthcoming, early Friday morning.

At around 12:30 a.m., the suspect approached customers and employees on the front patio of the Glory Days Grill on John Milton Drive in Herndon swinging a large chain.

Employees retreated into the building and locked the doors but the suspect used the chain to break the doors and entered the restaurant.

Quan Anh Ly confronted the bartender and broke numerous glasses and bottles, a police statement said. He then went to the rear of the restaurant, where he exited, but not before he struck a 58-year old man on the hand.

The suspect then went to a house on Freetown Drive in Reston and attempted to get in. John Kolego told Fox 5 that the sound of banging and glass breaking woke him up. Quan Anh Ly broke both windows along the front door trying to enter. Kolego said the suspect fled when Kolego yelled and asked him what he was doing.

Police found the suspect hiding under a nearby car.
