WASHINGTON – Police in Fairfax County are investigating two homicides that happened about 2 miles apart, and say they may be related.

Officers were called to a Springfield, Virginia, home on Blarney Stone Court, off Old Keene Mill Road, around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday. They found a 22-year-old man dead inside his home with apparent trauma to his upper body.

The victim was identified as Henok Yohannes, and police later said his death was ruled a homicide.

According to investigators, a Burke homeowner called police at 8:53 a.m. Friday after noticing a woman leaning against a tree in the yard. Medics and officers arrived at the home on Cordwood Court, and determined the woman was deceased. Police say the victim also had trauma to her upper body, and her death was ruled a homicide.

She was identified as 22-year-old Kedest Sileshi Simeneh, of the Springfield area.

A Fairfax County police spokeswoman said at this time investigators do not believe Simeneh has any connection to the neighborhood, though they believe her death may be related to Yohannes’s death.

“We don’t know if they were known to each other, it appears through some things that have come up in the investigation that they may be known to each other. But we are not clear on what that relationship is,” said Monica Meeks, with Fairfax County police.

The exact cause of death has not yet been determined in either investigation.

Anyone with information about either homicide is asked to call Fairfax County Police 703-691-2131, or by sending a tip to Crime Solvers.
