Mass casualty drill tests military response at Fort Belvoir

FORT BELVOIR, Va. (AP) — Military and civilian agencies are testing their disaster response capability with a mass casualty drill at Fort Belvoir in Northern Virginia.

The event Tuesday morning at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital is part of a regional emergency preparedness exercise called Capital Shield 2016.

A statement from Joint Force Headquarters for the National Capital Region says the drill includes a military special-reaction team, explosive-ordnance disposal teams, military working dogs and local law enforcement agencies.

The military statement says that on Wednesday, fire departments and emergency medical services from across the region will participate in urban search-and-rescue training at the Lorton Youth Detention Center in Lorton, Virginia.
