Fort Belvoir gets a new commander

FORT BELVOIR, Va. (AP) — An Army colonel who served two combat tours in Iraq is taking command at Fort Belvoir.

Col. Angelia “Angie” Holbrook will take over as garrison commander at Belvoir in a change-of-command ceremony Thursday morning. She takes over from Col. Michelle Mitchell, who has been garrison commander since 2014.

Fort Belvoir has grown significantly in the last decade and is now home to more than 50,000 workers.

Holbrook, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, graduated from Texas Christian University in 1991 with a degree in journalism.

Also Thursday, incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Billie Jo Boersma will take over for Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Guillory in what is dubbed as a Change of Responsibility ceremony.
