CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A law enforcement officer from Virginia has been selected to head the Horry County Police Department in the Myrtle Beach area.
Horry County announced that Maj. Joseph Hill with the Fairfax County, Virginia, Police Department, will start in Horry County on Sept. 26.
Hill replaces Saundra Rhodes as chief. Rhodes served for 23 years and is retiring to spend more time with her family.
Hill was selected after a nationwide search.
Horry County is in one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation. It’s the only county in South Carolina with two countywide law enforcement agencies. It also has a county sheriff’s office.
