UPDATE 4/11/16 1:34 a.m.: Jury Chavez and her son have been found after a resident notified the Alexandria City Police Department. Police said they are safe. Chavez was transported for an evaluation and her son, Jair Sanchez, is in care of family members.
EARLIER 4/10/16 11:29 p.m.: WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a missing 29-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son from the Alexandria, Virginia area.
Fairfax County police said officers responded to the 5600 block of Ridge View Drive shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday for the report of a person experiencing mental health-related issues. Concerned family members called police in an attempt to get mental health services for their daughter, Jury Chavez.
Chavez fled the residence taking her 9-year-old son, Jair Sanchez, with her, according to police.
Chavez suffers from schizophrenia as well as other mental health-related issues and is in need of services. Police said her son may be in her company and family members are concerned for their welfare.
Chavez was last seen leaving her residence on Ridge View Drive walking into a wooded area behind it wearing a black North Face jacket with a dark blue hooded sweatshirt underneath, white sweatpants and white and black Nike Air Jordan shoes.
She is described as a 5-foot Hispanic female weighing about 115 pounds with brown eyes. She may have her hair tied back in a pony tail and has a tattoo on her chest of letters that read “Blessed by the Best”.
Jair Sanchez was last seen wearing a long-sleeve shirt with yellow letters on front of chest, black sweatpants with a white stripe down the side and may be wearing gray-colored shoes.
