‘Shark Week’ is officially over; time to snap into ‘Jet Week’

WASHINGTON – “Shark Week” has come and gone again, leading countless “West Side Story” fans to snap in wonder: why no “Jet Week?”

Wouldn’t you want to celebrate with F-16s or A-4s?  Five days of DC-10s and B-1s?

The success of “Top Gun” suggests otherwise.

Of course, lost in the shuffle is the fact that the Jets and Sharks dueled to a stalemate, but not before bagging 10 Oscars, including the Best Picture of 1961 in a film celebrating its 55th anniversary.

Now that the Sharks have had their day, it’s time for the Jets to have their way.

This week, WTOP hosts “Jet Week,” honoring the cast of late 20-somethings playing teenagers. We’ll have the necessary power rankings of the combined gangs (you’ll be surprised who lands at No. 1). We’ll hand out the actual blame for the bloodshed. And we’ll also wrap up with what happened to each of the characters after those two fateful nights on the west side. Somewhere…
