WASHINGTON – Maybe it was a case of life imitating art for Jerry Seinfeld, who, much like his 1990s sitcom, was stymied by an annoying neighbor.
On Aug. 18, the police were called on the Seinfeld family, who had set up a roadside lemonade stand for charity in East Hampton, New York, the East Hampton Press reports.
Police told the newspaper that they had received a complaint about illegally parked vehicles at the location, and that the village prohibits all forms of peddling.
The lemonade stand was an attempt to raise money for Baby Buggy, a nonprofit that provides goods to impoverished children.
The organization was founded and run by Seinfeld’s wife, Jessica Seinfeld.
In a playful gesture, the family took to Instagram, posting a photo of themselves at the roadside stand with their hands up and behind their heads in “surrender” — a police officer visible in the background beside a squad car.
“Lemonade dreams crushed by local neighbor but not before raising lots of money for @loverecycled. Thanks to all of our customers and big tippers!” Jessica Seinfeld wrote in the caption. She then gave a shoutout to Jerry Seinfeld, their son Julian, and a family friend: “thanks Xander and Jaden for crushing it today with Julian and Jerry.”
