D’oh! Homer and Marge Simpson to ‘legally separate’

WASHINGTON — They’ve been happily married for 27 seasons.

But Variety reports Homer and Marge Simpson will “legally separate” in September’s season premiere of “The Simpsons.”

“In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage,” producer Al Jean tells Variety. “Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham.”

That’s right, you can blame Lena Dunham (“Girls”) for breaking up Homer and Marge.

The announcement comes just days after the show announced it would kill Bart Simpson during the annual Halloween episode, “Treehouse of Horror,” though that episode exists in its own universe.

“The Simpsons” returns September 27th on Fox.
