WASHINGTON — It played 478 performances during its 2012-2013 Broadway run.
Now, a revived version of “Nice Work If You Can Get It” is stopping at the Warner Theatre, in D.C., as part of a nationwide tour before heading out to the West Coast.
The screwball musical comedy is set in the 1920s, featuring direction and choreography by three-time Tony-winner Kathleen Marshall, recreated by David Eggers. The book comes from two-time Tony-winner Joe DiPietro, while the music and lyrics come from the legendary George and Ira Gershwin, including “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
“Their songs are storytelling and it’s easy to put a story around them, because they have such imagery and musicality in them,” actor Alex Enterline tells WTOP.
Enterline stars as wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter opposite Mariah MacFarlane as feisty bootlegger Billie Bendix, roles previously played by Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara on Broadway.
The new cast also stars Reed Campbell as Cookie McGee and Stephanie Harter Gilmore as Duchess Estonia Dulworth, roles that previously won Tonys for Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye.
“It really is just a night of fun musical comedy,” Enterline says. “It’s for the whole family. Every generation will find something that’s enjoyable in the show.”
If you’d like to see the show at Warner Theatre, you’d better act quick. There are only three chances to see it: Friday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m, Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. and again on Saturday at 8 p.m.
