Where to go on election night

April 23, 2024 | Where to watch election results in DC? (Nycci Nellis, The list, are you on it?)

WASHINGTON — Will you be celebrating or drowning your sorrows while filling out an application for political asylum on Tuesday night?

Regardless of how you’ll feel about the presidential election results, D.C. is offering political junkies plenty of places to gather and watch the returns pour in.

WTOP has found at least four comprehensive lists of places offering food and drink specials on Tuesday. Many are coming up with special election-themed drinks, such as “The Bad Hombre” and the “I’m With Her” cocktails at Beuchert’s Saloon in Southeast.

Some places that don’t usually have TVs are bringing them out for the night — or adding more big screens to accommodate what they hope will be big crowds.

Want to stick with your own kind?

“Smith Point is a bar in Georgetown known for its Republican crowd,” said Missy Frederick, editor of Eater D.C. On the other side of the spectrum, “Busboys & Poets definitely has more of a liberal bend.”

But, Frederick said, politically “pure” venues are few and far between.

“Most restaurants are trying to play it safe and appeal to the people on either side of the aisle,” she said.

Here are some highlights:

  • Among the many bars on or near Capitol Hill, Art and Soul is offering “swing state” cocktails all night.
  • If you need some EDM with your GOP, Barcode is hosting “Judgment Day” and all-night party. Of course, this being D.C., all night means ending at 2 a.m.
  • Bar Illegal, a pop-up owned by Ilegal Mezcal, (which has been vary vocal opposing Donald Trump), will hold a party involving an effigy cake shaped like Trump — along with plenty of Mexican food and beer.

Here are the best lists of election night specials we’ve found:

Of course, there is WTOP’s comprehensive Election Day freebies.
