WASHINGTON — Maryland’s primary will be held April 26, but you can cast your vote beginning Thursday.
Early and in-person absentee voting begins Thursday and runs through April 21, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. each day, and for the first time this year, you can register and vote on the same day.
If you’re already registered, you can just show up at the appropriate polling place and vote. But if you need to register, here’s what the State Board of Elections says you need to bring:
- Your Maryland driver’s license or ID card;
- A change of address card;
- A paycheck;
- A utility bill;
- Some other government document with your name and address.
You also need to bring one of these if you need to change your address when you go to vote.
The Maryland primary is a closed one — only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary; only registered Republicans in the GOP primary. You can’t change your party affiliation when you show up to vote early, the board of elections says; you have to update your affiliation after you vote in the primary you’re already registered for.
You can show up at any early voting location in your county, and it won’t necessarily be the place you usually vote on Election Day. Here’s a list of early voting locations in the D.C. area:
