WASHINGTON — A Northwest D.C. shooting suspect was arrested Wednesday morning by Metro Transit Police after he jumped onto the Green/Yellow Line tracks at the Gallery Place Station.
The incident caused rush-hour delays for hundreds of riders, Metro officials said in a news release.
The suspect was being sought in a shooting Tuesday at around 6:15 p.m. near the 200 block of D Street Northwest. That attack had left the victim with life-threatening injuries, D.C. police said in a statement. The suspect had been described as a black male with a “bushy top, gray T-shirt, armed with a gun.”
Within minutes of that shooting Tuesday, Metro officials said, video technicians for transit police spotted a man matching the description at the nearby Judiciary Square location. The suspect’s photo was shared with other police departments.
Transit officers spotted the suspect around 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Gallery Place station’s Red Line platform. After officers began talking to him, he tried to escape by jumping over the parapet wall and landed on the tracks. Third-rail power was quickly shut down, and officers took him into custody.

A handgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect, 29-year-old Mamadou Seck, sustained a leg injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Seck was charged with assault with intent to kill, carrying a pistol without a license, and unlawful entry.
Trains on the Green and Yellow lines were stopped for about 15 minutes, according to Metro. Customers with a registered SmarTrip card who experienced a delay exceeding 15 minutes will receive a “Rush Hour Promise” credit for their trip.
