DC police give all-clear at Washington Hospital Center after earlier report of a threat

WASHINGTON — D.C. police have given the all-clear at Washington Hospital Center after responding to the report of a threat there Thursday morning.

The threat sparked a lockdown of the hospital campus for about an hour.

In a statement, hospital spokeswoman So Young Pak, said a person verbally threatened a hospital staff member Thursday morning. “No weapon was seen and no injuries occurred,” she said in the statement. “We have resumed normal operations.

Hospital officials did not provide specifics of the threat.

A staff member at the hospital called police to report the threat at 10:19 a.m., leading to a heavy police presence. D.C police initially said they were responding to the report of an active shooter but that turned out to be incorrect. Police later clarified they were responding to the report of a threat and were canvassing the hospital campus for a suspect.

The lockdown lasted about an hour and lifted at 11:20 a.m.

Police did not say if they had identified a suspect or made any arrests.

The police activity sparked street closures in the area of the hospital campus for about an hour Thursday morning. At about 11:30 a.m., D.C. police said in a tweet that the streets had reopened.
