Marine shoots self at barracks in SE

WASHINGTON — A Marine is in the hospital Friday after he fired his weapon, shooting himself while at the Marine Barracks in Southeast.

Marine Corps officials said it happened around 8 a.m. and the matter is under investigation.

The Marine was transported to George Washington University Hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to Maj. Brian Block, a spokesman for the Marine Corps.

In addition to the Marines, the D.C. police and fire departments and the Washington Navy Yard Fire and Emergency Services department responded to the incident.
