WASHINGTON — A boy was shot Tuesday afternoon near the Northeast D.C. school he attends.

Around 3:50 p.m., a boy was found unconscious but breathing in the 1000 block of 45th Street in Northeast. He was shot across the street from IDEA Public Charter School, where the boy is a student, the school said.

The school had been dismissed for the day at the time of the shooting. All other students present for after-school activities are safe, the school said in a Facebook post.

Police are searching for a suspect, but have not yet released details of a suspect description at this time.

The school said the boy is receiving medical attention. Information about the boy’s condition or age have not yet been released.

“Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers. We will update you as we receive updates from the family and MPD,” IDEA Public Charter School wrote on Facebook.
