WASHINGTON — A mother is grieving after police said her 2-year-old son died at the hands of her boyfriend. Now, the D.C. man is facing a felony charge of first-degree murder.

On Tuesday night, officers arrived at an apartment on A Street in Southeast D.C. to find an unconscious 2-year-old boy, said Cmdr. Leslie Parsons with D.C. police.

Paramedics rushed the toddler, Aceyson Aizim Ahmad, to the hospital. He died from his injuries, which the chief medical examiner found were caused by multiple blunt force injuries. It’s still unclear what led to the child’s injuries.

Parsons said it took homicide Detective Anthony Green and his team little time to file charges against James Embre, 24, of Southeast D.C. Embre is in a relationship with the boy’s mother and was living in the apartment with them, Parsons said.

Embre will make his first court appearance on the charge Thursday afternoon.
