WASHINGTON — A wind-downed tree landed on a car that was apparently traveling through a Northwest D.C. neighborhood Friday afternoon, critically injuring the driver.
The tree fell in the 2500 block of 44th Street Northwest around 3:50 p.m., and it appeared that the car had been moving when the tree fell, said Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the department.
“It partially crushed the car,” he said.
Responders extricated the driver, an adult male, and transported him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
That particular block of 44th Street, Maggiolo said, runs between a wooded area and a residential area, and the downed tree took down wires as well.
