WASHINGTON — D.C. police are seeking three young men suspected in a series of brazen street robberies in D.C., including a string of six attacks on a single night earlier this month.
D.C. police on Tuesday released surveillance video of some of the assaults, most of which took place in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, as well as outside a restaurant near the Capital One Arena and near Union Station.
All but one of the attacks took place Nov. 1.
A restaurant assault took place shortly before 10 p.m. Nov. 1 in front of Succotash on F Street in Northwest. Police said one of the suspects asked a man standing outside the restaurant to use his phone. Police said the man refused, and surveillance video shows the young men assaulting the man, knocking him to the ground. Later, the video shows one of the suspects riding away on a Capital BikeShare bike.
Later that night, police said the three young men assaulted a man walking in the 700 block of 1st Street in Northeast near Union Station. Surveillance video shows the suspects knocking the man to the ground. Police said the man was injured in the assault and treated at a hospital.
Four other attacks — either robberies or attempted robberies — were reported in the Dupont Circle neighborhood between 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. that night:
- The group asked a man walking at about 8:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of N Street Northwest to use his cellphone and assaulted him when he refused, police said. The man was treated at the scene for injuries.
- At about 8:55 p.m. in the 1400 block of 21st Steet Northwest, the group assaulted another man after asking to use his phone. The man was not injured, police said.
- At about 9 p.m. in the 2100 block of O Street in Northwest, the group assaulted a man after he refused to hand over his cellphone. The man sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment, police said.
- At about 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of 20th Street Northwest, the group approached a man from behind and began assaulting him while demanding property, police said. The man was treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The first of the string of robberies the group is suspected in took place Oct. 30 shortly after 9:30 a.m. A man reported to police he was walking on the Metropolitan Bike Trail near S Street in Northeast D.C. and was approached from behind and assaulted. Also, the victim said someone went through his pockets.
