Shooting suspect sought, DC school locked down

WASHINGTON — A man was in grave condition and a school was on lockdown as police searched for a suspect in a shooting near an elementary school south of Anacostia Park on Friday.

The man was found suffering from gunshot wounds off Minnesota Avenue at 22nd Street at about 9 a.m., near Orr Elementary School. Police said he was in grave condition.

The school was still on lockdown at noon. Students were not allowed to go outside, but classes continued.

Police said the man was not breathing when he was found, but it was not clear whether he was taken to the hospital.

The police said the suspect was last seen running toward 19th Street Southeast.
