WASHINGTON (AP) — A teen girl was shot and killed near a housing project in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, D.C. police said Friday.
Breyona McMillian, 16, of D.C., was shot around 11:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of I Street in Southeast D.C. near the Potomac Gardens housing complex, about four blocks from the Marine Barracks. The teen, whose injuries were described as critical, was unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived on the scene and died after being taken to the hospital.
Police have not identified a suspect and said the motive remained under investigation as of Friday evening.
In a tweet Friday evening, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said she was “sickened’ by the shooting.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest or conviction. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099. Anonymous information can submitted to police by text messaging 50411.
