FAA employee caught in federal child sex sting

WASHINGTON — An undercover FBI officer netted a Federal Aviation Administration employee intending to have sex with a 10-year-old girl, according to court documents. The 20-year Army veteran was indicted Tuesday on a federal charge.

When Scott Casoni, 46, replied to a FBI Child Exploitation Task Force undercover officer’s online ad mentioning sex with a minor, he said, “You always have to be careful what you say online, I don’t want to get caught up in anything,” court documents said.

As NBC Washington first reported, Casoni moved the conversation to the anonymous Kik messenger app, and sent photos of himself to the officer that match his Virginia driver’s license photo.

Casoni, who lives in Alexandria with his adult daughter, agreed to meet with who he thought was another father and his 10-year-old daughter to have oral sex with the girl, charging documents said.

Casoni requested a photo of the girl, “at least her body, no face needed,” the documents said and attempted to confirm the meet was not a sting.

“You are not police or law enforcement or one of those TV shows, right,” Casoni asked according to the court documents.

“No that’s why I want to meet u [sic] first,” the undercover officer responded.

After Casoni drove from Virginia to D.C. to the meetup location, he ran when an officer tried to arrest him and fought off a tactical takedown before he was handcuffed and interviewed, the documents said.

Documents show despite the fact he “acknowledged the need to conceal his actions,” Casoni denied to officers he would have actually had sex with the girl.

Casoni entered a not guilty plea to the federal charge of travel with intent to engage in illicit sex with a minor, said Casoni’s defense attorney David Benowitz. He stands by his client’s plea and said there is no date set for Casoni’s next court hearing.
