WASHINGTON — A 7-year-old girl is in critical, but stable condition Saturday after being shot as she walked home from dinner with her parents, according to D.C. police.
There are few details, but police confirm that a girl was shot around 9:40 p.m. night in the 2400 block of Hartford Street, Southeast.
Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department, said she and her parents were returning from dinner, walking on the sidewalk in front of the address, when gunfire erupted.
Four shots were heard in the region. D.C. police said on Saturday the girl suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
She was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. Her condition was later upgraded to critical, but stable.
Police say they don’t have any suspects and said it was unclear whether this was a random or targeted attack.
