WASHINGTON – It’s a commuting pattern that’s growing in popularity. And even for those who just want the option to hop on two wheels, there are more popular parts of town where finding a bike can be tricky.
Capital Bikeshare says its busiest bike rack is at Union Station. The commuting hub unseated Dupont Circle’s bike rack — the company’s largest bike rack in the city fell to No. 3.
Also in the top 5 in Capital Bikeshare’s list of 2015’s busiest stations — the Lincoln Memorial at No. 2, the Washington Monument at No. 4 and the station at P and 15th streets claims the District’s fifth most popular spot, which the company attributes to a protected bike lane.
The Washington Business Journal reports that 4 percent of District residents commute by bike.
The DowntownDC Business Improvement District says residents’ demand for more places to lock up their wheels has doubled the amount of bike racks it plans to install as part of its contract with D.C.’s Department of Transportation.
