WASHINGTON — While many were out celebrating on New Year’s Eve, a large crowd gather in D.C. for a protest Thursday night.
The event, organized by Black Lives Matter DMV and other groups, was a demonstration against a lack of indictments in several high profile death cases, including the police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio.
A Facebook invite to the event urged people to “Turn Up to Shut Down Chinatown.”
Participants with signs and megaphones gathered in Chinatown around 7 p.m. and blocked traffic at 7th and H streets before marching all the way to 14th and U streets.
