Military ordnance causes road closures, evacuations in Northwest D.C.

WASHINGTON — Several residences were evacuated after a military ordnance was found in Northwest D.C. Wednesday afternoon.

The device was found in the 5700 block of 3rd Place in Northwest at about noon. At least six units were evacuated in the area, D.C. police say.

Police say they believe the device was found on someone’s property, but could not say where specifically.

The investigation is causing road closures in the area: 3rd Place is closed between Madison and Oglethorpe streets, police say.
