WASHINGTON — The athletic director of D.C. Public Schools resigned after questions were raised about her management of money, NBC Washington reports.
The resignation of Stephanie Evans, who has been on administrative leave since October, went into effect Tuesday night.
No money is missing or was taken, but there was a violation of protocol, sources tell NBC Washington.
Her extended leave was directly related to her alleged mishandling of city finances, The Washington Post reports.
A former DCPS athletic department worker and records obtained by The Washington Post indicate Evans’ department struggled with budget management and kept inconsistent records.
The school system has no records during Evans’ four-year tenure of the two biggest sporting events for D.C. Public Schools — the Turkey Bowl and the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association basketball championship games, The Post found in reviewing records sought through the Freedom of Information Act.
More than 40 coaches also were not paid their stipends for coaching for the 2014-2015 year.
