Man seen beating Metro passenger in video arrested

WASHINGTON — A man has been arrested after a video taken on Metro showed a passenger being beaten on a railcar last weekend.

William Nelson, 52, of Morningside, Maryland has been charged with felony assault for allegedly attacking another passenger on a Green Line train  on the morning of Sunday, June 7.

Metro Transit Police initially spoke with Nelson after he got off at the Southern Avenue station on the day of the incident, but the victim didn’t want to press charges at the time.

Two teenagers on the train claim they were assaulted by the same man who was throwing punches. The teens were not injured, but their parents had previously said they wanted to press charges.

In the graphic video, which has been viewed millions of times, a large man is seen violently punching a much smaller man square in the face repeatedly.
