D.C. principal resigns before contract ends

WASHINGTON — The principal of Wilson Senior High School in Northwest has resigned less than one month after learning his contract will not be renewed.

Pete Cahall said in a letter sent home to parents and staff two weeks ago that D.C. Public Schools did not renew his contract, citing low student test scores.

Initially, Cahall said he would finish out the 2014-2015 year.

On Tuesday,  Kaya Henderson, chancellor of DCPS, released a statement saying Cahall’s resignation was effective immediately.

Assistant Principal Gregory Bargeman will step in for the remainder of the year.

Cahall came out as gay earlier this year.
