DC vows to fix potholes in 48 hours

WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser knows the lamentations of D.C. drivers and the pain their tires suffer.

This Monday at 10:30 a.m., she’s kicking off the District’s annual Potholepalooza — a campaign to speed up pothole repairs throughout D.C. by responding to service requests within 48 hours for 30 days and following up to service requests within 72 hours throughout the rest of year.

Bowser will be joined by Jeff Marootian, deputy director of the D.C. Department of Transportation for the launch at 19th Street Northwest and Kalorama Road Northwest.

The closest Metro station to the event is Woodley Park-Zoo Metro.

The effort starts in Ward 1, but it will cover all eight.

Officials encourage D.C. residents, commuters and visitors to report potholes by calling 311, utilizing social media or contacting the city through online forms and emails.

Last year, DDOT received over 2,000 service requests for pothole repairs and fixed more than 16,700 potholes during the 2016 Potholepalooza campaign, according to a news release.
