According to ABC News , the holiday was created to celebrate John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who created the easy, go-to meal in 1792.

Firehouse Subs : If you’re the first of 50 to order the “Hook & Ladder” sub, you’re welcome to free chips and a medium drink with a medium or large sub on your next purchase, as well as a custom sub enamel pin. Firehouse Subs will also be donating a portion of your purchase to “providing lifesaving equipment for first responders,” according to their Facebook .
