WASHINGTON — Costco’s switchover to Citi Visa as its credit-card provider gets underway on Monday, and that means a few changes for those still holding the old American Express cards.
Members who use Costco’ TrueEarnings American Express credit cards for their purchases are out of luck. The company says that they began mailing the new Visa cards out to customers last month, and everyone should have their new ones by now.
Other Visa cards also are accepted as Costco, the company says, while MasterCard and Discover are also accepted at Costco.com. The Costco Visa cards can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.
Costco emphasizes that you have to change any automatic payments you have tied to your old Costco American Express card — they won’t go through with the old card.
USA Today reports that you don’t have to reapply for the Visa card, or undergo another credit check — the changeover is automatic. And you can use the Via card as your Costco membership card.
Costco says the new cards carry more benefits, including 2 percent cash back on Costco purchases, as well as 4 percent cash back on your first $7,000 of eligible gas purchases and 1 percent thereafter, USA Today reports.
On the other hand, you can only redeem those rewards at Costco now, and there’s no roadside assistance.
