WASHINGTON — There’s still plenty of time for summer grilling, and if you’re looking to buy a grill, you might get more bang for your buck with a less expensive model.
Consumer Reports published a listing of recommended gas grills that cost $300 or less. The mid-sized Char-Broil TRU-infrared, for example, is rated at 80 out of 100 points, for $260. And for $300, the Char-Broil Advantage gets a 78.
Pricier models are also ranked, and some of those don’t fare as well as the less-expensive ones.
The $2,100 American Outdoors Grill scored 43 points out of 100; while the $2,000 Summerset Sizzler Series gets a 32. They both ranked low for problems with even cooking.
And the worst rating of all, 21 out of 100, went to the Fervor Icon, for $1,300.
Consumer Reports recommends putting in research time to get more for your money, especially if you want a grill that will last some years.
For example, they say the burner warranty could tell you a lot: It’s the most-replaced part of a gas grill. If the burner warranty is short, it could mean the grill might not have longevity.
