WALDORF, Md. — A Charles County man found dead inside his Waldorf home is the suspected gunman in a shooting Thursday night that took the lives of his two daughters and left his wife in serious condition.
Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a town house in the 3300 block of Westdale Court after 8 p.m. to find a 36-year-old woman outside begging for help.
She told the deputies that her 37-year-old husband, Carlton Goodwin, had shot her and their two daughters.
The deputies found Goodwin dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found near the home’s staircase with a gun near him.
Deputies then went upstairs and found the couple’s two daughters.
The older daughter, 17-year-old Lashelle, was found wounded in a bathroom. Her younger sister, 4-year-old Laila, was found dead in a bedroom.
Lashelle and her mother were flown to a hospital to be treated for their injuries, but the sheriff’s office said that the teen died later that night.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office was working to determine what prompted Goodwin to shoot his family and then himself.
