New DC hotel near Nationals Park promises awesome rooftop bar

WASHINGTON — A new hotel is in the works for The Yards in Southeast D.C., two blocks from Nationals Park, and it will include an expansive rooftop bar with 360-degree views of the city.

San Francisco-based Geolo Capital and Boston-based JW Capital Partners will bring the Thompson Hotels project to the corner of Tingey Street and 3rd Street Southeast, with an opening date target of early 2020.

The Thompson D.C. will be the first hotel development within The Yards and will join four other hotels within walking distance of Nats Park. Nearby hotels include the Courtyard by Marriott, Hampton Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites and Residence Inn by Marriott.

The 225-room hotel will include 38 suites, including what it calls two expansive Thompson Suites, many with views of the river and ballpark.

It will also include a street level restaurant and 4,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

JW Capital Partners and Geolo Capital will develop the hotel but will sell the hotel to Frankfurt, Germany-based Union Investment.
