WASHINGTON — Discount grocer Lidl will open its third store in the D.C. suburbs March 8 in Ashburn, Virginia.
The store is at 21285 Coopers Hawk Dr. at the intersection of Broadlands Boulevard and Claiborne Parkway.
Lidl’s two other D.C.-area stores are in Manassas and Woodbridge.
It opened a second store in Fredericksburg last month.
Lidl, known for its lower-priced store brands and simple-to-navigate stores, has now opened more than a dozen stores in Virginia since launching its East Coast expansion plans last year, with plans for more, including more locations in the D.C. region.
Lidl picked Crystal City in 2015 for its North American headquarters, where it employs more than 700. It also has distribution centers in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and Cecil County, Maryland.
Lidl has said it plans more than 100 stores on the East Coast eventually.
Rival discount grocer Aldi has a much more established presence in the D.C. region. It is also spending $30 million to upgrade its stores in the region, part of a nationwide, $1.6 billion investment in its U.S. stores.
