WASHINGTON — The Meatball Shop will open its first location outside of New York City this summer on 14th Street Northwest.

Known for its mix-and-match meatball menu, The Meatball Shop opened its first location on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 2010. It has since added five other locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The D.C. location will be at 1740 14th Street, N.W.

“Everyone loves meatballs. Meatballs aren’t just a New York thing,” said chef Dan Holzman. “When we started in 2010, we quickly learned that meatballs make people smile, and that’s exactly what we want to bring to D.C. — a little slice (or ball) of happiness.”

Holzman started the original Meatball Shop with his childhood best friend, Mike Chernow.

Its menu features five varieties of meatballs, including beef, pork, chicken, veggie and a daily special. Its mix-and-match menu also features sauces, including tomato, pesto, parmesan cream, spicy meat sauce and mushroom gravy.

Diners can also order their meatballs on a toasted baguette, or smash on a brioche bun with mozzarella or provolone cheese.
