Cisco Systems pays $1.9B for Gaithersburg’s BroadSoft

WASHINGTON — San Jose, California-based Cisco Systems Inc. has completed its $1.9 billion acquisition of Gaithersburg,Maryland-based software maker BroadSoft.

Cisco gets Broadsoft’s cloud calling and contact center business, which will join Cisco’s calling, meetings, messaging and customer care division.

BroadSoft was founded in 1998 and went public in 2010. It has about 1,700 employees, who will join Cisco’s Unified Communications Technology Group. Former BroadSoft CEO Michael Tessler also will join Cisco.

BroadSoft had been working with advisers on strategic alternatives, including the sale of the company. Cisco announced the deal to acquire BroadSoft last October.

Cisco Systems has been growing its business lines through a series of acquisitions, and recently completed its 200th acquisition.
