Wegmans is hiring for its Chantilly store (and it has a burger bar)

WASHINGTON — Wegmans, which has six stores in Northern Virginia, is still five months away from opening a new location in Chantilly, but it is already making a dent in store hiring.

Wegmans began hiring for the store, located at The Field at Commonwealth near the intersection of Va. 28 and Westfields Boulevard, in September, and says it still has openings for 320 part-time positions and some remaining full-time jobs.

The Chantilly Wegmans opens June 3.

In total, the store will employ 500 people, most of whom Wegmans says are new to the company and hired locally.

It is holding a hiring event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at its Chantilly recruitment office at 14280 Park Meadow Drive.  Applicants will be interviewed on the spot that day.

“We’re expanding in Northern Virginia and we promote from within, which is ideal for anyone who wants to start or grow a career,” said Chantilly store manager Brien MacKendrick, who began working for the family-owned company 21 years ago as a part-time cashier.

“Though we’re months away from opening, new employees begin in-depth training soon after they’re hired so that they’re knowledgeable about our products and fully prepared to deliver incredible customer service right from the start.”

Wegmans offers good benefits and an employee scholarship program for both full and part-time employees. It ranked No. 2 on Fortune Magazine’s “The 100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2017.

The 120,000-square-foot Chantilly Wegmans will be the first in Virginia to include The Burger Bar, a casual sit-down restaurant with burgers, salads and sandwiches. Wegmans locations in Columbia, Maryland, and Woodmore, Maryland, also have Burger Bar restaurants.
