Online custom frame company Framebridge shuts down Lanham shop

WASHINGTON — Framebridge, a custom picture-framing business founded in 2014, has closed its Lanham, Maryland, frame-making facility and moved all production to its new state-of-the-art facility in Richmond, Kentucky.

The company’s corporate headquarters remains in Georgetown in D.C.

Framebridge, whose backers include Revolution Ventures and New Enterprise Associates, opened its Kentucky facility in 2016. The 60,000-square-foot facility increased Framebridge’s capacity sixfold.

Framebridge spokesman Matt Carrington said 40 employees have been affected by the closure of the Lanham facility.

The company has also offered relocation packages for all affected full-time employees and extended severance and job outplacement assistance to those who choose not to move.

“As Framebridge continues its rapid growth, the company has made significant infrastructure and technology investments within its Kentucky facility that will enable them to better serve customers at scale,” Carrington said.

Framebridge, which launched in 2014 to take a piece of the $5 billion U.S. custom framing business, lets customers choose frame styles and custom sizes and see the finished product before ordering. Its custom frames range from $39 to $159.
