BWI breaks its own record: Number of flyers jumped in July

WASHINGTON – BWI Marshall Airport, now the busiest of the Washington region’s three airports, set a new record this summer.

The airport said 2,533,582 commercial passengers flew through the airport in July. That is up 5.4 percent from July of last year, and it marks the first time more than 2.5 million passengers have traveled through BWI Marshall in a single month.

July 2017 was the 25th consecutive monthly passenger record for the airport.

BWI Marshall, which served an all-time annual high 25.1 million passengers in 2016, continues to grow with new airlines and flights to new markets. It now has service to nearly 90 domestic and international destinations.

Last year was the second straight year with more than a million international passengers at the airport.

BWI Marshall said airlines that had a notable increase in business in July included Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, Condor, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines.

The airport moved up from No. 15 last year to No. 11 this year on the annual JD Power North American Airport Satisfaction study for large airports.
