More change at Bethesda Row: Urban Country is moving — but not far

WASHINGTON — High-end home furnishings store Urban Country is leaving its Bethesda Row home of nine years, but it isn’t leaving Bethesda Row.

Urban Country is relocating to a new showroom on Arlington Road in January, taking space formerly occupied by City Sports, which has been vacant since City Sports filed for bankruptcy and closed all its locations in 2015.

The new Urban Country store, at 7121 Arlington Road, will be a 6,000-square-foot showroom, a stone’s throw away from its current location at 7117 Arlington Road.

“We are thrilled to have found space within Bethesda Row that meets the growing needs of our customers while remaining in the community,” said Urban Country founder and owner Rachelle Roth.

It is the latest shuffle announced for Federal Realty’s Bethesda Row.

The Barnes & Noble anchor, at the corner of Bethesda and Woodmont Avenues, is closing when its lease expires at the end of the year.

A three-story Anthropologie store will replace Barnes & Noble.

The offbeat women’s retail chain, owned by Urban Outfitters, will open a huge, 37,000-square-foot space with its Anthropologie & Co. concept that includes its line of bridal gowns, a furniture showroom, a beauty boutique and a shoe salon.

It will also include a full-service restaurant on the ground floor with a patio along Woodmont Avenue. It will open in the fall of 2018.
