WASHINGTON — Wegmans Food Markets stores employ a lot of people, and it’s already hiring for its newest D.C.-area branch, even though opening day is still more than a half year away.
Wegmans Chantilly, Virginia store will open in mid-2018 and ultimately employ 500 people. The supermarket chain said it is now recruiting for 180 full-time positions at the store, including chefs and cooks, entry-level management and customer service.
Hiring for part-time jobs is set to begin at a later date.
The Chantilly Wegmans is a 120,000-square-foot store at the Field of Commonwealth, a retail complex near the intersection of Virginia Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard.
It will be the first Virginia branch to have “The Burger Bar,” a casual in-store restaurant that serves burgers, salads, soups and sandwiches.
Wegmans, which has made the Fortune Magazine list of “The Best Companies to Work For” for 20 consecutive years, said it has 150 openings at existing Northern Virginia locations.
Wegmans opened its first Virginia store in Sterling in 2004. It has 10 locations in Virginia now and has a future store in the works at Tysons Corner.
Wegmans made headlines earlier this year after announcing plans for its first store in the District, at the Wisconsin Avenue Fannie Mae headquarters redevelopment, although that branch won’t open until 2022.
